Thinking about Plastic Surgery?
'Come as you are and leave as you wish'
Plastic surgery (I refer to Cosmetic surgery for the purpose of this article) involves the enhancement of the aesthetic appearance by carrying out a surgical procedure. One Medical Resource Group cited that, in 2006, 11.5 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the US alone. It's hardly surprising as from the moment we wake to the moment we go to sleep at night, we are subject to (and encouraged to aspire to) images of 'perfection'. Every corner of the media, celebrity & advertising work hard to show you (in airbrushed quality) that you are not attaining this, not quite.
Type 'plastic surgery' into a search engine and it will display a list of medical practitioners advertising cosmetic procedures. Pictures of beautiful women smiling back at you from the glossy sites advising readers of their surgical services. Scroll down further and you will find a disturbing look at those procedures gone wrong. It serves to highlight the dangers involved in surgical procedures and the importance of finding a reputable practitioner.
If only you had that pesky wrinkle smoothed out, if only your lips were plumper, tummy was flatter, breasts were bigger, your life would significantly improve. Better your self image, thus improve your confidence. This isn't an activity solely for women, the cosmetic surgery industry has experienced a recent surge in the number of men opting to have work carried out. Pectoral implants, chin and buttock implants, an attempt to promote a more masculine, defined appearance.
