Although the official deadline to return to college and take a pass on the NBA is May 4, here is my way too early pre-season top 25 for the 2011-2012 college basketball season.
1. North Carolina Tar Heels
Harrison Barnes, John Henson, and Tyler Zeller have all decided to give it one more crack at a National Championship for Heel nation. Roy Williams and his Chapel Hill friends will be the odds on favorite to open up the season as the number one team heading into next year.
They also return PG Kendall Marshall and SG’s Leslie McDonald and Dexter Strickland. Bringing in two McDonald’s All-Americans (McAdoo & Hairston) surely will help make this team deeper than anyone in the nation. Throw in a team with a ton of momentum and a bevy of talent and you may start to ask the question: Can North Carolina become the first team to run the table since the 1976 Indiana Hoosiers?
